A former student of Gippsland Grammar has won compensation of $2 million after being abused by a teacher with a long history of abusing female students in public and private schools.
The State Government was also held responsible for failing to warn Gippsland Grammar of the teacher’s previous abuse, and, after he resigned from the State school system, allowing him to remain registered as a teacher in private schools.
Rightside Legal also similarly joined the State Government in a case involved former Beaumaris Primary School teacher Darrel Ray, who was also allowed to keep his registration as a teacher and keep offending.
Rightside Legal’s work on tracking the previous movements of the Gippsland Grammar teacher (who cannot be named) , and the failings of the State Government, may assist other abuse survivors gain damages and loss of earnings.
