William Stuart Landman

Rightside Legal has represented a number of students who attended Chelsea Primary School in the 1970s.

The Principal was William Stuart Landman (sometimes spelled Landmann), a repeat offender who was convicted of many crimes against students in 1978.

Landman died more than a decade ago, but was employed by the Victorian Education Department for more than 40 years – 34 of those as a teacher.

Across this period Landmann repeatedly abused students. In just a brief snapshot of his abuse, he was known to have committed wilful and obscene exposure, indecent assault, gross indecency and unlawful assaults against more than a dozen girls aged eight to 11 years old in the course of just four months at Chelsea Primary in 1977.

Tragically, rather than being held to account Landman was simply shuffled around Victoria into other schools once his abuse became too much for schools and their communities to tolerate.
