William Alexander Allen, also known as Bill Allen, was a teacher for the Department of Education between 1959 and 1982.
In 1966, Allen was convicted of sexually abusing two students. At the time, Allen was a teacher at Sunshine Technical School and St Albans Technical School.
Rightside Legal understands that Allen declared the previous conviction for gross indecency on application forms submitted to the Department of Education in the 1970s, but incredibly, was re-hired anyway by the Department and remained employed until the 1980s.
Allen also taught at:
- Albert Park High School from 1973-1975
- Templestowe High School from 1975 to 1982.
Prior to his re-employment with the Department of Education, Allen taught at Geelong Grammar’s junior campus and Champagnat College in Victoria and at a private school in New South Wales.
Allen was arrested in 1983. In mid-1985, he pleaded guilty to at least eight charges of sexual abuse against a child. He was given a five-year good behaviour bond. The Director of Public Prosecutions appealed the lenient sentence but Allen died prior to the appeal being heard.
In 2026, Rightside Legal successfully obtained compensation of more than $1 million for a survivor abused by Allen at Templestowe High School.
We believe that Allen abused more students. Even though Allen is deceased, survivors can still pursue compensation and hold the Department of Education responsible for Allen’s wrong-doing.
