Johnathan Harvey, also known as John Fitzroy Clive Harvey, was born in 1940.
He was a maths teacher and housemaster at Geelong Grammar School (GGS) from 1969 until 2004.
He was convicted in 2007 for sexually abusing a GGS student between 1976 and 1978.
In 2017, he was heavily featured in Case Study 32 of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. The Royal Commission found complaints had been made to GGS as early as 1991 about Harvey sexually abusing students in 1982 and 1985, but that nothing was done.
Further allegations had been made to GGS against Harvey in 2004, but he was allowed to remain on full salary for 2005 and ‘retire early’, and proper records about the true reason of his retirement were not kept.
