Daniel John Virgil McMahon, also known as Brother McMahon and Father McMahon, was a teacher at a number of schools beginning in the 1960s and later was a school counsellor.

He taught at boarding school Aquinas College, Perth in the 1960s.

He later was associated with schools including:

  • St. Mark’s College (Bedford)
  • Christian Brothers College (Highgate)
  • The junior school at Trinity College (Perth)
  • Chisholm Catholic College (Perth).

He also taught in South Australia, and in the 1990s moved to Tasmania to become a priest with the Christian Brothers.

Despite complaints about his sexual abuse of children, including letters to the Archbishop of Hobart, McMahon remained a priest until he passed away in 2012, before criminal charges could be heard in Court.

A 2023 parliamentary report by the Community Development and Justice Standing Committee found McMahon “abused children at every school he attended”, despite 24 complainants having come forward.
