Six survivors of convicted paedophile teacher Peter Farmer are suing the Victorian Education Department, claiming it failed to protect them and allowed him to continue teaching and abusing children after his resignation in 1988. The department denies liability while the victims seek justice for decades of trauma.

Growing up in the Latrobe Valley in the 1990s, the name Peter Farmer was notorious.

People knew of the teacher who had abused children at Newborough, but nobody knew just how terrible the abuse was.

While Farmer serves his sentence in prison, six of his victims are suing the Victorian Education Department for failing to protect them and for what they allege was its inaction, which led to him teaching and offending further in the Northern Territory.
