Geelong Grammar employed Phillipe Trutmann as a live-in boarding house assistant at the Highton campus boarding house in the 1980s and 1990s.
Trutmann gave back rubs and back scratches to students, invited students into his bedroom to read them stories behind a closed door, placed students on his lap when reading them stories in public and sat in dark bedrooms on the side of boys’ beds at night.
He groomed and sexually assaulted many boys at the school for over a decade.
In 1985, a student reported to the school that he had been sexually abused by Trutmann. The school took no steps to control or limit Trutmann’s access to students – despite multiple staff expressing concerns about his behaviour – until it asked him to leave the boarding house in 1996.
In 2005 Trutmann pleaded guilty to sexually abusing 40 students at Geelong Grammar.
