Day was an Australian Catholic priest ordained in 1936 who served within the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne.
While battling alcohol addiction, Father Day served as a parish priest in Victoria for over four decades before retiring in the late 1970s.
In the early 1960s he lived and worked as a chaplain at St Catherine’s Children’s Home in Highton, a suburb of Geelong. The Children’s Home housed young, vulnerable girls and was operated by the Sisters of Mercy.
During his tenure at St Catherine’s, Father Day had young girls visit his residence to clean and provide him with morning and afternoon tea. In his residence, Father Day groomed and sexually abused many young girls.
Father Day left St Catherine’s abruptly after allegations of sexual abuse surfaced.
He died in 1988 without facing criminal charges.
