Rightside Legal has successfully represented clients who were abused by Willem (Bill) Willemsen in his time in The Salvation Army from the 1950s through to the 1970s.
Willemsen was also known as ‘Black Willy’ – and sometimes as ‘Sergeant Willemsen’, even though this was not his Salvation Army rank.
Born in 1925 in Holland, Willemsen first joined the Salvation Army in his home country, before becoming a staff member or ‘soldier’ at the Salvos’ Box Hill Boys’ Home after arriving here in 1958. He remained at the boys’ home until 1977.
During this period he sexually abused a number of boys in the dormitory and in the ‘treatment room’ where boys were sent when sick or injured. He also abused boys in his car when he took them out on car trips – including at a local drive in.

No Win. No Fee.
Capped Pricing.
At Rightside we don’t have a string of expensive offices, dozens of partners or expensive marketing campaigns to fund. We limit the number of cases we take on, prepare your claim properly and fight hard for 100% of what your claim is worth.
We understand that our clients are often anxious and uncertain about the whole legal process. We’ll do our best to eliminate the uncertainties. We work on a No Win No Fee basis – that means we fund the litigation, and you only pay when we succeed. We also cap our fees to give our clients greater certainty.
