Born in 1941, Beyer was a volunteer at The Salvation Army’s Bayswater Youth Training Centre and Tally Ho Boys’ Home in Burwood from the 1970s through to the early 1990s.
Beyer abused a number of boys from as young as four years old up to around 14 through the boys’ homes.
Beyer groomed his victims by inviting them into his family home to use the swimming pool, pool table and rumpus room, and offering them sweets and cigarettes if they remained silent.
He tempted the state wards with weekends away. He also often met and groomed boys through a local basketball club.
In 2008 Beyer was sentenced to nine years and four months in prison with a non-parole period of six years.
