Rightside Legal has represented adults who were abused as children by former teacher Gregory Maxwell Oates.
Oates was a music teacher employed by St Columba’s College in Essendon in the 1980s.
As part of his teaching role, Oates conducted and coordinated a school band and taught the subject music performance.
During his tenure, Oates sexually assaulted a number of female students.
In about December 2022, Oates pled guilty to two counts of sexual penetration with a person aged between 16 and 18, one count of indecent assault, and one count of gross indecency in relation to his sexual abuse of students at St Columba’s.
He was given a suspended sentence.
