Father Michael Glennon was a Catholic Priest and notorious paedophile within the Church.

Ordained in 1971 Glennon served the Church in the following positions:

  • Chaplain at St Augustines Boys Home in Geelong from 1971 to 1972.
  • Assistant Priest and School Chaplain at St Monicas Church in Moonee Ponds between 1974 and 1977.
  • Assistant Priest as St Gabriel’s Church in Reservoir between 1977 and 1978.

Glennon was notorious for grooming both boys and girls, predominately through organised youth activities that operated out of Catholic parishes. These included scout groups, karate schools, youth camps and drama schools. Glennon would go on to establish the ‘Peaceful Hand Youth Foundation’ and buy property in Lancefield, which further facilitated his crimes against children.

In 1978 Glennon was convicted of indecently assaulting a girl under the age of 16 and was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment. Following his conviction, Glennon ceased to be a practicing priest but was still given certain authorities by the Archbishop and continued to use his title.

It was not until 1984 that Glennon resigned from the priesthood and not until 1999 when he was further laicised from his duties at a priest of the Catholic Church.

Glennon would go on to be convicted of a large number of offences against children in the 1990’s and 2000’s. In sentencing remarks in 2003, Judge Williams correctly described Glennon as ‘wantonly evil’, showing no remorse, regret, sorrow or concern for is victims.

Glennon died in prison in 2014.
