Father Laurence Heydon was an Anglican Minister in Cobram, part of the Wangaratta Diocese in the 1980’s.

Prior to arriving in Wangaratta, Heydon offended against multiple child parishioners in Deniliquin in the 1960’s, where complaints were first raised about his behaviour to church officials.

Heydon then went on to offend against children in the Adelaide Hills, where he used his joint role as chaplain with the Australian Army, to lure children on sailing and camping excursions.

Prior to his position in Cobram, concerns had been directly raised with a church leader at the Wangaratta Diocese about his suitability to hold a role within the community. While offending in Cobram and its surrounds, further complaints were made by parents which were ultimately ignored.

Heydon died in 2006 before criminal charges could be brought against him.

We believe Heydon abused numerous children who have not come forward yet.
